HC acquits sukinda man for child sacrifice case

Cuttack,November 20: The Orissa High Court on Wednesday acquitted a 30-year-old man sentenced to death by a lower court for killing a minor boy at Ichhapur under Sukinda in Jajpur district in February 2010.

The court exonerated Pitambar Gaipai from all charges due to lack of evidence.

Gaipai was convicted and awarded the death sentence by the Jajpur District and Sessions Court on August 4 this year. He had moved the High Court challenging the lower court order.

According to the prosecution's case, Gaipai had beheaded the eight-year-old boy, Shrikant Bag, in a sacrificial act during the intervening night of February 11 and 12 in 2010.
