Angul BJP President arrested on charges of misbehaviour

Angul,November 20: District BJP President Ashok Kumar Mohanty was arrested and dragged to court by police on early hours of Friday for allegedly misbehaving with Kaniha Block Development Officer (BDO) Seshdev Mishra.

On November 2, BJP workers and local farmers of the district led by Mohanty had gheraoed the Kaniha block office over increasing farmers' death and drought like situation. The BDO was manhandled during the incident and the office was allegedly locked by the agitators. Later, Mishra lodged a complaint with police regarding the incident.

However, Mohanty alleged that BJD hatched a conspiracy to defame him. He further stated that ration cards were provided to the rich people instead of the poor, following which they had protested on behalf of the party. The dissatisfaction of the people could be seen during the protest.

"I am being targeted in the incident because of the pressure from Palalahada MLA Mahesh Sahu. But, we will continue with the protest for the interests and benefits of the farmers", Mohanty added.

BJP General Secretary of the district said, "The government is deeply concerned about the rising farmersí death. Ashok was sneakily arrested at night due to the pressure from the MLA. We strictly condemn such arrest. We will intensify our protest in the coming days."
