BJD Nominates Narendra Swain As Candidate For Rajya Sabha By-Poll

Bhubaneswar: Nov 27;  The ruling BJD has been nominated Narendra Swain as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha by-poll. Earlier the party had appointed him as Chairman of Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC).

BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik today made the formal announcement here.

"I am grateful to party supremo's decision. I will work for the party with utmost dedication," Narendra Swain said post the announcement.

As per the official notification by the Election Commission of India, the nomination process will continue till December 3, scrutiny of documents will be held on December 4 and December 7 is the last date to withdraw nominations. Polling and result will be declared on December 14.

Notably, the ruling BJD is set to win the Rajya Sabha seat considering its strength in the Assembly.

The Upper House seat from Odisha had fallen vacant following the demise of senior BJD leader Kalpataru Das on July 25 this year. The BJD member,s term of office would have ended on April 2, 2020.
