Konark Festival and International Sand Art Festival Inagurated

Bhubaneswar; Dec.2:  Odisha Tourism department's five-day twin mega events of Konark Festival and International Sand Art Festival were inaugurated Tuesday evening.

The Konark Festival will be held in the open air auditorium with famous Sun Temple at the backdrop with five renowned Odissi troupes along with famous artistes of Manipuri, Satriya, Kuchipudi, Bharatnatyam and Kathak.

Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Chandra Panda inaugurated the open theater Konark Festival in the presence of former Minister Surendra Nath Nayak, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Dasburma, Kakatpur MLA Surendra Sethy, Konark NAC Chairperosn Bhanumati Routray, Tourism Secretary Gagan Kumar Dhal and Culture Secretary Manoranjan Panigrahi and Director Neetinbhanu Das.

Minister Panda too inaugurated the Sand Festival. Nimapara MLA Sameer Ranjan Das and noted sand artiste Sudarson Patnaik were present.

The International Sand Art Festival this year will feature 35 stalls with reputed international and national artistes. Women sand artistes and differently-abled sand artistes will also participate in the festival coordinated by Sudarshan Patnaik. Awards and trophies will be given to the winners.

Since both the events are of international importance and unique in nature, the Department of Tourism has laid emphasis on hassle-free management and taking sincere efforts to attract more and more tourists and art lovers through media campaign and tour packages through OTDC (Odisha tourism development corporation), said Tourism department sources.
