Bhubaneswar; Dec.3: Senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Narendra Swain today filed nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha seat from Odisha which was vacated due to the demise of Kalpataru Das, who was elected to the Upper House in April 2014.
Accompanied by the BJD President and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and other senior Ministers, Swain filed two sets of nomination
After filing the papers, Swain said, "In Rajya Sabha, my stand will be for overall development of Odisha as dreamt by Biju babu. I will support my party's demands which are being made in the Upper House."
Besides, he stated, "I will fight against the Central government's apathy towards Odisha. BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik is fighting against the Centre's negligence. I will raise voice against the apathy towards my state in the Rajya Sabha."
Replying to a query on his role in the party after being elected to the Upper House, Swain said, "I will work for the party here despite become a Rajya Sabha member."
While, the verification of nomination papers is on December 4, the last date of withdrawal of nominations is on December 7. The polling and counting of votes will be held on December 14.
Earlier, Opposition, Congress and BJP announced not to field candidates due to lack of strength.
