Cong MLA Naba Das Suspended For A Week After Being Filmed Watching Porn Inside Assembly

Bhubaneswar; Dec.15: Odisha Assembly speaker Niranjan Pujari on Tuesday suspended Congress MLA Naba Kishore Das for seven days for watching porn clips inside the assembly on his mobile phone on Monday.

Speaker announced this deccison after government chief whip Ananta Das brought a motion in the matter, which was passed by a voice vote.

The speaker sent the matter to ethics committee for further probe.

Das dubbed such decision as complete undemocratic. "I was prepared to request the Speaker after the Zero hour for giving me an opportunity to clarify my stand. But Before that the ruling party moved a motion seeking my suspension. This is undemocratic," the suspended legislator said.

"As the BJD has majority in the House, it has resorted to dictatorial rules. It can suspend anyone from the Assembly with a simple allegation," Das added.

Echoing similar view, BJP MLA and party's Odisha chief KV Singhdeo said "Without waiting for the report of Ethics committee, the ruling party brought a motion. Even the Jharsuguda legislator was not given a chance to explain. So, we demand a transparent inquiry into the entire episode.

On the other hand, BJD welcomes the decision of the Speaker. "It is a matter of shame for the entire Odia community. We demanded before the Speaker for action and he suspended him from the House. I hope he (Naba Das) would bring change in his attitude and do something good for the people of Odisha," BJD member Pramila Mallik, said.

Notable a local TV channel, which was broadcasting the proceedings, shot law maker Naba Kishore Das, who represents Jharsuguda assembly segment, watching objectionable content during question hour.
