Omfed To Collect 10Lakh Litre Of Milk A Day

Bhubaneswar: Dec 24; Milk collection in the State will be increased to 10 lakh litre per day by 2019," said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while reviewing the progress of the Omfed at the State Secretariat here on Tuesday and directed the milk major to prepare a plan to meet this target.

Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi, Development Commissioner, R Balakrishnan and Omfed Managing Director and FARD Secretary Bishnupada Sethi were present at the meeting.

According to reports, currently the Omfed is collecting 5.2 lakh litre of milk a day from dairy farmers through 5,448 cooperative societies. Around 80 per cent of the Omfed's income is disbursed among the 2.8 lakh dairy farmers of the State.

The Omfed, one of the milk federations affiliated to the National Dairy Development Board, has played a significance role in the State's economic growth.

Patnaik suggested the Omfed to maintain the standard of its dairy products along with strengthening its market system.

Besides, discussions were also held about raising the Omfed's funds and establishing its new ancillary plants.

The Omfed is on an expansion mode and growing at a much higher scale than before. Setting up of ice cream parlours by it has been widely appreciated.
