Bhubaneswar; Dec.27: After cloudy weather of about a fortnight, cold wave started reigning parts of Odisha with Daringbadi of Kandhamal district and Sundergarh touching lowest level of temperature of 6.5 degree celcius last night.
"Cold wind blowing from from Himalayan range and north-east Sikkim helps decreasing humidity which raised the coldwave condition in State.The night temprature falls by 4 to 6 degree celsius," director of Regional Meteorological Department Sarat Chandra Sahu said.
The wintry condition will continue till next 24 hours. Especially, parts of interior and coastal Odisha will be mostly affected, he added. However, the sky will be clear, Sahu pointed out.
Next to Daringibadi, Sundargarh emerged as the coldest place of the State with 6.5 degree Celsius. Keonjhar recorded 8 degree Celsius and seven other towns recorded sub-10 degree Celsius on the day.
The Capital city, which had recorded a minimum temperature of 19.8 degree Celsius on Friday, witnessed a sharp five degree drop in temperature within 24 hours.
Among other towns, Baleswar, Angul and Baripada recorded mercury a little above 10 degree Celsius.
