Prayas De-Addiction Centre Murder Case: Third Accused Nabbed

Bhubaneswar; Jan.5: The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday nabbed the third accused in connection with the murder of Sumit Behera, caretaker of Prayas de-addiction centre located near Naharakanta on the outskirts of the capital city of Bhubaneswar on December 29.

The accused Ashok Verma was nabbed by Mancheswar police from Rourkela who was absconding since the incident.

It may be recalled that two inmates of the de-addiction center accused of killing the counsellor were apprehended by Mancheswar Police last Friday night.

Police suspect the involvement of at least six persons in the crime and are carrying out raids at different locations to nab the others.

On December 29, the 20-year-old was tied up, beaten before strangulating him to death to get away from the Centre. The counsellor had to pay with his life for resisting the inmates who were demanding for the keys to escape from the facility. Following the incident, around 36 inmates of the de-addiction facility ran away.

According to police, the escape plan was hatched by a new batch of 12 inmates, who had been admitted to the facility recently.
