Odisha submits final drought memorandum, demands Rs 2344 crore

Bhubaneswar, Jan 16: The state government on Friday submitted final memorandum before the Centre demanding drought assistance of Rs 2344.99 crore.

The final memorandum has been submitted on the basis of crop cutting experiment report submitted by district collectors earlier. On January 6, the Centre has sanctioned drought assistance of Rs 815 crore against its demand of Rs 2199 crore in two different memorandum.

Except Jagatsinghpur and Malkangiri district, all 28 districts were identified as drought-hit. The state government said total 235 blocks in 28 districts affected due to the drought. 
Agriculture land in 55 urban areas also suffered damage to the extent of 33 per cent and above due to the drought.
