9 Insurgent BJD Councilors Of Keonjhar Municipality Appear Before SEC

Keonjhar: Jan 27; 9 councilors of Keonjhar Municipality appeared before the State Election Commission (SEC) today in connection with the alleged violation of anti-defection law by them as per the amendment to Section 17 of the Odisha Municipal Act, 1950 (Odisha Municipal Laws (Second Amendment) Act, 2015.

Along with these nine councilors, the Municipality executive officer, Urban Development Commssioner, and a representative of BJD have also been asked to personally appear before the SEC.

The rebel councilors had argued that disqualification is not applicable in their case as they had moved the no-confidence motion against the chairperson, who belongs to BJD, before the amended provision of the Odisha Municipal Act, 1950 came into force with effect from December 19 last year.
