The state government on Friday announced the appointment of IT innovator Subrato Bagchi as the chairman of Odisha Skill Development Authority, a newly-created body to oversee the skill development programmes in the state.
Making the announcement in the assembly, chief minister Naveen Patnaik said Bagchi would be given the rank of a cabinet minister. He would join on May 1, the International Labour Day, and directly report to the chief minister. The IT innovator born at Patnagarh in Balangir district would receive a token salary of Re 1 a year.
"He would visit all 30 districts in the state for an understanding of the initiatives at the ground level and submit his recommendations based on which a detailed programme will be worked out," Naveen said.
Pitching for skill development of youths in the state, Naveen said the state government wants the world to value the skills of people in Odisha.
The proposed skill development authority will bring convergence among skill development programmes across departments.
