A top commander of terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad was among two militants killed in a gunbattle with security forces in Maharaja Bazaar area of the city on Monday night.

Security forces launched an operation in Maharaja Bazaar following information about the presence of militants in the area, a police official said.

He said a gunfight broke out between security forces and militants.

"Two militants were killed in the encounter. One of the slain militants has been identified as Saifullah, a Pakistani national who was commander of Jamait-ul-Mujahideen, the others identity is being established," the police official said.

The officer, however, did not confirm if these militants were involved in carrying out two deadly shoot and run attacks that left three policemen including an assistant sub-inspector, a head constable and a constable killed.
