Sheena Bora murder case: CBI wants to maintain secrecy of names of witnesses

News

According to CBI, Sheena was murdered in 2012 by her own mother Indrani Mukerjea. CBI also tried to convince the court and the defense lawyers to maintain secrecy of the names of the witnesses who will be taking the stand in the forthcoming hearings.

Even though the defense lawyers asked for the complete list of witnesses, CBI refuses to give a list saying that there will be unnecessary speculations and interviews in media which would ultimately hamper the case.

"This will also compromise the security of witnesses so we will only give the names of a couple of witnesses who will be coming on every next date," said Bharat Badami, counsel for CBI in court.

The defense needs the list of witnesses that the investigating agency plans to bring as witnesses in Sheena Bora murder case as they needed it for preparing their cross examination. However, Badami also tried to convince the court and the defense lawyers to maintain secrecy of the names of the witnesses who will be taking the stand in forthcoming hearings.

PROCEDURE

As a procedure, all investigating agencies give a list of witnesses to the court and defense, so that all concerned in the case are ready to question the witnesses.

In a day there are couple of witnesses who are summoned so that in case one witness does not turn up, then the other can be asked to stand in the witness box and be questioned.

DISCUSSION

The judge of special CBI court, HS Mahajan then decided to not conduct the further proceedings in open court but called all the lawyers inside to discuss the date and names of witnesses who would be called for next date.

The judge however prevailed upon CBI to give a list on 17th of February and the first witness will be brought in the case for deposing.

CBI

The defense lawyers on the other hand denied all 216 documents that CBI has used in support of their case. CBI officials felt that there were approximately 90 per cent of the documents that the defense could have accepted such as the Will of Indrani and Peter, the mails, and the birth certificates and marriage certificates.

Some of these documents were even original. This just increases the work of the agency further. Now CBI will have to get witnesses to testify in court about all these documents.

According to CBI, Sheena was murdered in 2012 by her own mother Indrani Mukerjea. According to the agency, Sheena's stepfather and former television head honcho Peter Mukerjea, was part of the conspiracy to eliminate Sheena as she was pestering them for property to be given in her name and was also engaged to Peter's son from his first wife, and both Peter and Indrani did not approve of this relationship.
