Attack On Jatni Tehsildar: OAS Officers' Body Gives 24-Hr Ultimatum To Arrest Accused

Bhubaneswar: Two days after Jatni Tehsildar was attacked by unidentified miscreants while raiding illegal stone quarries in Khurda, the OAS officers' Association on Friday gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the State government to arrest the accused.

The officers' body has warned to launch a stir if its demand is not met.

On Wednesday some unidentified miscreants, believed to be a group of stone mafia had attacked Jatni Tehsildar Bijay Kumar Swain for opposing illegal stone quarrying in the area. Swain along with some other officials was attacked at Rathipur village, while they were returning after conducting a raid on an illegal stone quarry. The vehicle of the Tehsildar was also damaged in the incident.

While Swain was admitted to Jatni hospital for treatment, others were discharged from hospital after giving first-aid.

"During the search we seized a power tiller from the spot. However, the illegal miners managed to flee. While returning with the seized machinery, around 20 to 25 miscreants intercepted us and pelted stones at us. Somehow we managed to escape from the spot," said Swain.
