IIT Bombay's Regional Educational Video Channel Gets 10,000 Subscribers

The regional educational video channel of Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay got 10,000 subscribers on YouTube. Students of IIT Bombay started the channel to hosts video lessons of Science and Mathematics. The response to the regional educational video YouTube channel of IIT-Bombay reveals that there has been a change in the education pattern and internet is becoming more accessible to the students living in rural areas.

The Open Learning Initiative (OLI) channel of IIT-Bombay crossed the landmark point by reflecting a growth of 4,000 percent in a span of one year. The speciality of the channel is that it features more than 170 videos, which are uploaded in eight regional languages that include Bengali, Oriya, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Gujarati, Hindi and Marathi.
The student behind this noble initiative is Yash Sanghvi who is pursuing an undergraduate course at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. Sanghvi had collaborated with the coordinator of National Service Scheme (NSS) and launched this initiative. The audio-visual content in the channel helps the students understand the concepts effectively.
Sanghvi revealed that they have not spent a single penny to publicise the channel and people started to discover the channel while they searched for educational content in various regional languages. Mouth publicity is the key factor for the development of their channel.
He further added that they upload two videos per week on the channel and they ensure that they check the overall quality of each video while uploading. The content on the channel is being presented in a simple manner so that all the students can understand and learn without any difficulty. The number of students benefitted from OLI is 40 to 100 for each class.
