12-hr Puri bandh hits normal life

Puri, Oct 24: Normal life has gone out of gear in the holy town of Puri as a 12-hour bandh in protest against the worsening law and order situation began by the District Bar Association at 6 am this morning.

The protesters, supported by common people, have also resorted to a 'Rail Roko' in the Puri railway station. Vehicular movement from Puri to Bhubaneswar, Brahmagiri, Konark and Kakatpur have been disrupted. Due to the bandh call, most shops, business establishments, schools, colleges remained closed in Puri.

The lawyers called for the bandh peeved at murder of lawyer Laxmidhar Mohapatra by unidentified miscreants on October 18, and worsening of overall law and order situation.

Protestors have started picketing at different places and blocked roads by burning tyres on roads going go different routes. They have demanded immediate transfer of the Superintendent of Police. 

It may be noted that some miscreants had attacked lawyer Laxmidhar Mohapatra on October 18. Later, he died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
