BJP to celebrate November 8 as anti-black money day: Arun Jaitley

New Delhi, Oct 25 : Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday said that the Bhartiya Janata Party will celebrate 'Anti-Black Money Day' in the nation on November 8, 2017. It was on the same day in 2016 that the Modi government had announced demonetisation of high denomination currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000.

Attacking Congress, the FM stated that Congress had adequate opportunity to be in power and he cannot recollect a single significant step that they ever took against black money.

Jaitley further said that Congress had reconciled to India living with a shadow economy and it is understandable that this would never be on political agenda of Congress leadership.

Earlier on Tuesday, Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said 18 opposition parties would observe November 8 as Black Day to mark their protest against demonetisation which was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year on the very same day.

While addressing a press conference in the national capital, Azad said demonetisation is a scam of the century. He said Congress president Sonia Gandhi has constituted a coordination committee of six parties.

Azad said the government made 135 changes since demonetisation was implemented and several people lost their lives.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Derek O Brien said that all opposition parties will question the government, and would observe November 8 as Black Day.
