Elephants destroy crops in Angul; NH 149 blocked, traffic hit

Angul, Oct 27: Vehicular movement on NH 149 has been severely hit as locals have staged a road blockade demanding compensation for standing paddy damaged by a herd of elephant in as many as three villages in Anugul district.

Hundreds of villagers have sat on the road at Nuapada. According to reports, a herd of 22 elephants came last night damaged crops in Nuapada, Dashanala and Balaghar village last night. All the villages are located along the NH 149.

Due to the road blockade, hundreds of trucks, buses and other vehicles have stranded on the roadsides at the both ends of the agitation spot. Meanwhile, forest officers have reached the spot and are trying to drive away the pachyderms.
