Police lathcicharge, detain protesting GRS members in city

Bhubaneswar, Oct 27: Police on Friday resorted to lathicharge to disperse hundreds of Gram Rozgar Sevaks (GRS) who tried to march towards the Odisha Legislative Assembly to protest the alleged apathetic attitude of the State Government towards them.

While more than 100 sevaks were detained by the police many other sustained injuries in the incident.

The gram sevaks hit the streets under the banner of the banner of Nikhil Odisha Gram Rozgar Sevak Sangh (NOGRSS) demanding regularisation of their jobs.

Shouting anti-government slogans, the protestors marched towards the State Assembly. At the last barricade a heated argument was exchanged between the GRS members and police personnel followed by a scuffle.

The situation took an ugly turn when the police personnel resorted to lathicharge to disperse the mob to bring the situation under control.
