SCB medicos call off strike after DMET assurance

Cuttack, Oct 28: The agitating junior doctors of SCB Medical College and Hospital called off their three-day cease work on Friday after Director Medical Education and Training (DMET) assured to meet their demands.
'We decided to resume our duty after DMET Prakash Mahapatra gave a written assurance to fulfill two of our three demands within a month,' said SCB House Surgeon Association president Prasanjit Patnaik. The DMET has assured to strengthen the security system at SCBMCH and enhance the monthly stipend of House Surgeons, Patnaik told.

Beside giving assurance to fulfill 15-point charter of demands in order to strengthen security system at the hospital, Mahapatra has also assured to enhance house surgeons' stipend to an amount equivalent to 50 per cent of the salary of Assistant Surgeons, Patnaik informed.

The house surgeons and undergraduate medicos were on dharna and cease work since wee hours of Wednesday after relatives of a patient, who succumbed to brainstroke, manhandled a house surgeon Dr Aman Kumar Behera on Tuesday night.
