Cuttack, Oct 30: Lakhs of devotees thronged the Dhabaleswar Peeth near Cutatck to have Darshan of Lord Dhabaleswar on the first day of Panchuka on Monday.
Devotees stood in long queues, each serpentine more than one km, from two ends to reach the 14th Century Shiva shrine and offer prayers to Dhabaleswar. While one line of devotees was created from Cuttack side, another from the Mancheswa side.
The devotees, who visit from Cuttack side, cross the wide Mahanadi through mechanic boats and those coming from the other side walk through the hanging bridge.
It may be noted that during Panchuaka, a holy five-day period of the Odia month of Kartik, the temple, located an island surrounded by the Mahanadi witness lakhs of devotees. During Panchuka, Bada Osha, which falls on November 2 (Thursday) this year, the famous Prasad called Gaja Bhog is offered to Lord Dhabaleswar. Similarly, the gold adornment of the lord attracts visitors the most. It is believed that devotees get their wishes fulfilled by holding Dhabaleswar brat during Kartik month.
