Separated twins Jaga, Kalia will recover slowly: Minister

Bhubaneswar, Oct 31: Kandhamal twins Jaga and Kalia, who were separated by heads in a major operation held at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), would get well slowly, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena on Tuesday.

'We are in touch with the doctors attending Jaga and Kalia. The condition of the twins is now stable,' said Jena.

It may be noted that the AIIMS had yesterday said in a Press release that Jaga and Kalia were very weak and slowly improving, and they would stay in the ICU for seven to 10 days more.

'They are still in the ICU and a team of 15 consultants and 10 residents are looking after them under the supervision of Prof AK Mahapatra and Dr Deepak Gupta. They are also being looked alter by Plastic Surgeons,' said the release.

It had further stated that the twins' breathing is good and hemodynamically stable.

Notably, the twins were separated by heads in a major operation at the AIIMS on October 25 by a team of 40 doctors under the guidance of neurosurgeon Prof Asok Mohapatra and Dr Deepak Gupta.
