Farmer suicide: Technical team begins probe in Bargarh

Bargarh, Nov 2: The three-member technical team headed by Agriculture Department Deputy Director Pramod Mohanty today started its probe to find out the reasons behind the massive pest attack on paddy fields resulting in the suicide of farmers in Bargarh.

Sources said the three-member team also comprising of Manoj Panda and Basanta Kuamr Patnaik are raiding pesticide shops in Bargarh town and examining its quality. Farmers in the region alleged that pesticide supplied to them by the Government and also those available in open market was of substandard quality which led to the damage of crops forcing distressed farmers to end life.

Meanwhile, the State has asked the Collectors of eight districts to conduct an inquiry on the damage of crop due to pest attack and submit a report by Friday.
