Woman farmer attempts suicide in Balasore

Balasore, Nov 3: A woman farmer has allegedly drank poison in an attempt to commit suicide as pests damaged her paddy plants in Kujidiha village under Soro block in Balasore district.

The victim was identified as Saraswati Patra. She drank pesticide under stress as pests damaged most of her crops. She drank poison in absence of her husband late on Thursday night. The family has incurred a loan of Rs 30,000 for cultivations, reports said.

Family members soon rushed Saraswati to the Soro hospital. However, she has now been shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as her condition deteriorated further.

According to Reports, the Additional Tehsildar has now went to the village to take stock of the crop situation in the village and know the reason for which Saraswati consumed poison.
