Farmer suicide: Bargarh Collector submits report to Govt

Bargarh, Nov 4: Bargarh district Collector Khagendra Kumar Padhi today submitted report on the suicide of farmer Brunda Sahu (55), to the State Government.

Sahu consumed pesticide on Thursday a day after setting his crops on fire after it was damaged by pests in Kalapani village in Bargarh district. Brunda was found lying in critical condition in his farm land, located near the land that was burnt by him to get rid of the pest attacks. He was rushed to the Bargarh district headquarters hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Sources said Brunda was a share cropper and he had taken 14 acres of land on lease for cultivation.

Following the incident, Agriculture Minister Dr Damodar Rout directed the Bargarh Collector to probe the matter and submit a report within 48 hours.

Meanwhile, opposition Congress and BJP have intensified protest against the State Government for its insensitiveness towards farmers.
