Demonetisation completes 1 yr: State BJP observes 'anti-black money' day

Bhubaneswar: One year celebration of the Union Government's demonetisation seems to have warmed up politics in Odisha.

The Union Government's demonetisation banning old Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes had been adopted exactly a year ago on the midnight of November 8, 2016.

While the BJP, which is power at the Centre, claims that demonetisation was a major step in checking black money and corruption, the Opposition parties have termed the move as a major failure of the country's economic process.

The State BJP, like other saffron party-ruled States, is observing the day as 'anti-black money day' while opposition parties, barring the BJD, is holding the day as a black day.

'Demonetisation is a major step to bring reforms in the country's economy. It has checked flow of black money,' BJP State president Basant Panda told reporters.

The Congress and other opposition parties are holding black day today.
