Twist in Kunduli gang-rape case: Congress lambasts Govt, HRPC ADG

News

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Prasad Harichandan on wednesday blasted Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Human Rights Protection Cell (HPRC) ADG Mahendra Pratap for their alleged attempt to suppress the gangrape case involving a minor tribal girl in Koraput.

Taking a pot shot at ADG Pratap, Harichandan wanted to know as to how the top cop revealed before media that the girl was not raped while the matter is sub-judicie before the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC).

'On what ground you (Mahendra Pratap) told media that the girl was not raped while you are asked by the SHRC to submit a report,' questioned Harichandan here at a press conference at the State party office.

Raising finger at the Chief Minister, Harichandan said, 'Your police said the girl was not raped. Then why you ordered a judicial probe and Crime Branch probe. What do you want to prove?'

The HRPC ADG on Tuesday said that he had spoke to the doctors who conducted the girl's medical test and the doctors' report clearly said she was not raped. Pratap was asked by the OHRC to conduct a separate probe, notwithstanding the ongoing investigation by Koraput police.

The minor tribal girl, a Class-IX girl of Sarispadar Sevashram School, and a resident of Musaguda village under Pottangi police limits, had alleged that she was kidnapped and gang-raped by four armed security personnel, who were in jungle patch uniform in Lanjiguda forest while returning from Kunduli on October 10.
