School students in Odisha to get shoes along with uniform

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government is considering to provide shoes to school students free of cost acting on a directive issued by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).

Sources said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is likely to make an announcement on distribution of shoes to school students on the Children's Day on November 14.

Earlier, on the basis of Right to Education Act-2009 and Right to Education Rules-2010 National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Chairperson Stuti Kacker had suggested Chief Secretary A P Padhi for inclusion of shoes in school uniform.

Later the School and Mass Education department wrote to project director of the Odisha Primary Education Programme Authority (OPEPA) to inform it about the feasibility on the plan's implementation.
