Bhubaneswar: BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today revoked suspension on Banki MLA Pravat Tripathy, who was arrested by CBI in connection with AT chit fund scam in October 2014.
The revocation of suspension decision came five days after the Supreme Court on Monday rejected the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)'s petition challenging the bail relief granted to Tripathy, in connection with chit fund scam, by Orissa High court in 2015.
A BJD press statement released to media house signed by party general secretary Bijay Nayak informed about the party supremo's decision.
On October 31, 2014, minutes after being arrested by the CBI for alleged link with the Artha Tatwa Group, a ponzi company involved in the multi-crore chit fund scam, Tripathy was suspended from the BJD by party president Naveen Patnaik.
Tripathy was the first politician and sitting MLA in Odisha to have been arrested by the CBI in the multi-thousand-crore chit fund scam.
The central investigating agency in its charge-sheet had cited that the MLA had taken over Rs 40 lakh from AT group chief Pradeep Sethy. However, he was later granted bail by the Orissa High Court on March 3, 2015.
