Bhubaneswar: Marine police, Indian Navy and Coast Guard would jointly conduct mock exercise - Sagar Kabach - on Odisha and West Bengal coasts next week to thwart possible sea-route subversive activities.
'The proposed mock exercise - Sagar Kabach - will be held within seven-eight days to assess preparedness for tackling infiltration of terrorists via sea in Odisha and neighbouring West Bengal sea coasts,' said Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Asit Tripathy after chairing a preparatory meeting.
Like every year, Indian Navy, Coast Guard along with all stakeholders of coastal security will participate in the exercise.
Marine Commandos of Indian Navy and Coast Guard besides State police, Marine Police, intelligence officials, Central Industrial Security Force, port officials, customs, fisheries department and fishermen will take part in the security exercise, sources said.
The entire coast between Odisha and West Bengal will become a virtual battle zone as personnel of the Navy, Coast Guard, State marine police and marine fisheries wing will part in the security drill.
The annual security preparedness exercise, which is part of Centre's coastal security plan, is an attempt to test the forces' preparedness to thwart enemy attacks through sea routes.
Senior State police officers, officials from Indian Navy, Coast Guard attended the meeting.
