Traffic on Angul-Puruna Cuttack road hit for 'Rasta Roko'

Angul: Vehicular movement between Angul and Puruna Cuttack has been severely hit as villagers started a 'Rasta Roko' at Fulapada Chhack this morning in protest against the arrest of three persons on charges of damaging an Ambulance on Saturday.

It may be noted the villagers had caught the driver of the ambulance after a girl was heard shouting for help at Fulapada near Angul on November 18. The driver reportedly misbehaved with the girl inside the ambulance when she was returning home after leaving an ailing family member behind at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

The villagers not only managed to nab the driver but also damaged the ambulance. Thereafter, they handed over the driver to the police. However, the police arrested three of the villagers for damaging the ambulance.

In protest against the arrest, the villagers are now sitting on the NH at Fulapada. Resultantly, hundreds of vehicles have stranded on the NH at different places between Angula and Puruna Cuttack.

The villagers demanded that the arrested villagers freed unconditionally at the earliest. Police have reached the spot and are trying to placate the situation.
