Mayurbhanj BJP chief held for land fraud

Bhubaneswar: Police on Sunday arrested Mayurbhanj district BJP chief Krushna Chandra Mohapatra from Cuttack on charges of land fraud. 'We had received information that Mohapatra was in Cuttack following which a police team went there and arrested him at 10 pm,' Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said.

'Mohapatra had taken one crore from Dhirendra Dhir in 2012 on the pretext of providing him a plot in the city. But later he sold it to another person and Mohapatra neither executed the deal nor refunded the money,' Infocity police said.

Sources said Mohapatra had later given a cheque to Dhir which had also bounced. Dhir had moved court which directed the police to register a case against Mohapatra.The city cops had also conducted a raid on the of residence of Mohapatra in Baripada on Friday night. But he managed to give the policemen the slip. He was earlier arrested for assaulting Jamsola check-gate staff in 2016.
