3 buffalo babies die in jumbo attack at Chandaka

Bhubaneswar: Three buffalo babies were reportedly killed after being attacked by a wild elephant in Chandaka forest area on the city outskirts last night.

According to reports, the elephant, 'Makhana', attacked the buffalo cubs at their open shed last night. Makhana was in a herd when it attacked the buffalo babies.

Meanwhile, palpable tension prevailed at the forest department office at Chandaka as buffalo owners and villagers of Similipatana sat on a dharna there. They demanded adequate compensation for the buffalos died in the attack of the elephant.

Police personnel are now trying to placate the angry villagers.

It may be noted that death of buffaloes in elephants' attack is often reported in Chandaka forest area.
