Narayan Sahu joining BJD will have no impact on BJP: Basant Panda

Bhubaneswar: Even as the BJP Bargarh district unit president Narayan Sahu dumped the party and expressed his desire to join the ruling BJD, ahead of the by-poll to the Bijepur assembly constituency, saffron party State unit president Basant Panda said it will have no impact on the BJP.

'The ruling party and administration are trying their best to divide other parties. However, they will not succeed in their attempt. Smooth functioning of a party depends on organisation and not on an individual,' said Panda.

He asserted that the joining of Narayan Sahu in BJD would have no impact on the saffron party.

Earlier, Sahu was successfully persuaded by senior BJP leaders like Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan not to quit the party, after BJP inducted Ashok Panigrahi to the party as it was in search of a candidate for the Bijepur by-poll.

Today, Sahu sent his resignation letter to BJP's state president citing his resentment over the party's work in the district as the reason for quit.

Later in the day, Sahu visited Naveen Nivas - the residence of Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik - for a meeting with the latter, following which he informed that he would formally join the BJD on December 3.
