Sand mafia attacks villagers in Balasore

Balasore: Members of sand mafia today attacked villagers in Sanadhapada in Balasore district for protesting illegal extraction of sand from the river.

The two villagers, Dipak Jena and Rajendra Nayak have been admitted at the Balasore district headquarters hospital. There condition is stated to be stable.

According to sources, the incident happened when the members of the sand mafia was taking stock of sand lifted from the banks of the river. They were confronted by villagers. The goons attacked the villagers injuring two locals critically.

Sources said police reached the spot and started investigation.
