Dreaded Maoist couple surrenders in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: A Maoist couple, carrying a hefty reward on their head, surrendered before the police in Malkangiri district on Friday. The couple hails from Bijapur in Chhattisgarh.

Bijal Kadme (26) and Soni Oyam (23) alias Nande surrendered before Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Jagmohan Meena today. They were carrying a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh each on their heads.

The surrender of the couple is being seen as a major blow to the Maoists in the neighbouring Chhattisgarh and Malkangiri as they were considered the most senior tribal cadre. Several cases including blasting, torching are pending against them in different police stations in both the States.

Kadme who joined Maoists organisation in 2008, was arrested in 2012 and remained in jail for a period of four years. He again joined the Maoists after his release from jail in 2016. Oyam joined Maoists organization in November, 2009.
