Elephant infant falls in well in Angul

Angul: An elephant infant has remained trapped in a dug well in Kasarikuda village under Athamallik block in Angul district since last night, according to reports.

Forest officials are now trying to rescue the jumbo cub with help of a JCB machine.

It is suspected that the elephant infant was part of a herd that moved through the village last night. While the cub fell into the well, other elephants of the herd moved into the jungle.

We have started rescue operation. We are widening the well so that the cub can be brought out safely, said a forest official.
