Acid attack: Remand ends, prime accused Santosh Bedanta sent to jail

Bhubaneswar: Santosh Bedanta, an Indian Army soldier, arrested by the Jagatsinghpur police for the acid attack on a girl, was remanded in judicial custody at Jagatsinghpur Sub-jail after completion of the remand period, today.

Tirtol police had taken him on remand till November 30. He was produced in the Jagatisnghpur SDJM court, which remanded him in jail.

On November 26, the law finally caught up with Bedanta, eight years after he allegedly threw acid on girl badly disfiguring her face.

Jagatsinghpur police Bedanta (36), posted in Kupwada district in Jammu and Kashmir and his associate Biswajit Dalasinghary for allegedly attacking Pramodini Roul with acid. Police said Bedanta threw acid on the girl as she did not accept her love proposal.
