Rain forcast: Farmers advised to take care of crops

Bhubaneswar: Special Relief Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi has asked the district collectors and concerned departments to advise the farmers about the rain forecast by IMD.

According to IMD, the Well Marked Low Pressure Area lying over South Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Arabian Sea and Equatorial Indian Ocean is very likely intensify into a depression during next 24 hours and deep depression subsequently.

It is very likely to move towards North Tamil Nadu South Andhra Pradesh Coast during next 3-4 days.

Under its influence, low intensity rainfall is likely in Koraput, Malkangiri , Gajapati and Ganjam districts on December 7 and rainfall of higher intensity in coastal and adjoining districts on December 8 and 9.

Sethi has asked the collectors to advise the farmers to shift their harvested paddy to safe place and keep it properly stacked under suitable cover so as to avoid any loss / damage due to rain.

Where paddy crops are ready for harvest, they should take steps to harvest the same and store safely to avoid damage due to rain.

He has also asked the collectors to take necessary measures to protect paddy in Mandies if any , against rain.
