Farmer hangs himself over crop loss in Jajpur

Jajpur: Although Odisha Government has released Rs 364.76 crore to collectors of 19 districts, including Jajpur for payment of agriculture input subsidy to farmers affected by unseasonal rains, a farmer allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at Sundarpur village under Bari Tehsil on Monday evening.

The deceased farmer has been identified as Suresh Kumar Sahoo.

According to reports, Suresh had cultivated over 10 acres of land by borrowing around Rs 80,000 from moneylenders. But, he had to suffer crop loss due to pest attack and unseasonal rains recently.

Suresh was in depression and immense stress to repay the loan.

However, rain forecast from December 7 added more woes to Suresh's suffer. Unable to bear the traum, Suresh committed suicide by hanging himself to a tree near his home in the village.
