Bhubaneswar: The Leader of Opposition and senior Congress leader Narasingha Mishra today said that the BJP-ruled Centre has cheated Odisha by refusing to form a tribunal to resolve Mahanadi river water sharing dispute.
He also blamed the State Government for allegedly failing to protect the interests of the people of the State.
'The Centre has committed a blunder by not constituting a tribunal to resolve inter-State river water dispute. Both the Central and Odisha Governments have failed to protect the interests of the people of Odisha,' said Mishra.
He said that though he stood in the House to draw the attention of the Speaker for cancelling the Question Hour in order to hold discussion over the issue of denial on the part of the Central Government to form a tribunal, the Speaker didn't allow him to speak and adjourned the House.
On Wednesday, the Centre through an affidavit informed the Supreme Court that a tribunal as demanded by the Odisha Government will not be formed citing that the information provided by Odisha is not sufficient.
