Women roll Pink Autorickshaws in Rourkela

Rourkela: The Pink Autorickshaw service was introduced in the Steel City Rourkela here on Thursday partnering women drivers.

As many as 21 Pink Autorickshaws were introduced to provide safe and secure journey to the girls in the city. Sundergarh Collector V Bharadwaj and Smart City CEO Monisha Banerjee handed over the battery operated three-wheelers to the women drivers in the first phase.

The Autos will be managed by women drivers but any passenger can avail the service.

It is an initiative to make women self-sufficient and empowered. SBI has provided a rebate of four percent on the loan amount while Odisha government has given a subsidy of 25 percent for purchasing the vehicles.

It has been launched here on the completion of one year since Rourkela was declared a Smart City.
