BJD MPs level poll expenditure irregularities against Jual, meet EC

New Delhi: A delegation of BJD MPs led by Rajya Sabha member Dilip Tirkey on Thursday met Chief Election Commissioner (EC) in New Delhi and demanded action against Union Minister Jual Oram over poll expenditure irregularities.

The MPs handed over a memorandum to EC demanding disqualification of Jual Oram's MP candidature for alleged poll expenditure irregularities.

The EC assured the BJD delegation to launch a probe into the matter.

After meeting the EC, Tirkey said, 'Oram has provided some wrong information on poll fund in his poll affidavit during the 2014 general elections. A complaint has been lodged in this regard and we demand action following an elaborate inquiry.'

Notably, BJP candidate Jual Oram had won the Sundargarh Lok Sabha seat by defeating BJD candidate and former hockey player Dilip Tirkey by a margin of 18829 votes in 2014 polls. Later, Tirkey was elected to the Rajya Sabha.
