NHM nurses call off strike

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Contractual Nursing Employees' Association today called off the ongoing strike following the assurance from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO).

According to sources, the contractual nurses appointed under the National Health Mission (NHM) will join duty today night. A delegation of the nurses' association today held a discussion at the CMO where officials assured them of early solution to their demands following which the agitating nurses agreed to call off the strike.

On December 23, National Health Mission (NHM) Mission Director Shalini Pandit warned agitating contractual nurses, to join duty within 24 hours or face stern action, including service loss.

She had said that their demands were under active consideration of the State Government.

The strike of the contractual nurses had left the public healthcare system in despair.

Notably, the NHM nurses had resorted to an indefinite strike since last five days demanding regularisation of jobs, fair pay and other Government benifits.
