Rourkela: Elephant menace continued unabated in forest-adjacent areas in Sundargarh district with human casualties rising to three during the last four days of the New Year.
In another such incident, a youth was trampled to death by a tusker when he was sleeping in his thatched house in Jharbeda village under the Kuanrmunda forest range late on last night.
The deceased was identified as Nabin Kerketa. Villagers have informed the forest officials about the incident.
It may be noted that a person, George Lugun, was trampled to death by an elephant at Kutial village under the Bisra police limits in Sundargarh district on Thursday morning while forest officials along with villagers were chasing away pachyderms to a jungle.
