Three of a family hurt as Army jawan goes on firing spree

Jajpur: Three of a family, including a woman received bullet injuries after an Army jawan went on shooting spree over a land dispute at Bharatpur village under Jenapur police limits in Jajpur today.

The injured, identified as Sujata Pradhan and her son Bibek Pradhan and Ranjan Pradhan were rushed to the Dharmasala hospital and later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital as their condition deteriorated.

Meanwhile, police arrested accused jawan Maheswar Das. Police also seized the firearm from his possession.

Sources said the accused jawan intercepted Khirod Pradhan, who was on his way to his farmland and started assaulting him. When Khirod's wife Sujata and two sons came to the rescue of the former, the jawan got furious and fired shots at them from his gun.

The attack is suspected to be fallout of an old land dispute, the sources added. Police investigation is on.
