IIC assaults scribe: DGP seeks report from Commissionerate Police

Bhubaneswar: Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma today sought a report from Commissionerate Police on Puri Talabania IIC's assault on journalist in Capital Hospital here.

The DGP said that appropriate legal action will be initiated against the Inspector in-charge (IIC) Ramakanta Patra after Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi submits a report.

Meanwhile, the Capital Police station sleuths recorded the statement of the accused cop and the victim journalist today.

On Monday the Capital police station registered a case against Patra, who allegedly assaulted a private news channel's journalist at Capital Hospital on Sunday. Patra, who was inspector-in-charge of Talabania police station in Puri, was removed from the post for his alleged misconduct on Sunday night by Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi.

The accused cop, who had come to Capital Hospital for treatment after an accident near Dhauli on Sunday evening, lost his cool and assaulted the TV channel reporter, when the latter was clicking his photographs.

Meanwhile, Home Secretary Asit Tripathy told media persons that he has already asked the Additional Director General (Crime Branch) Santosh Upadhyay to verify the charges of levelled against the cop.
