Fire safety audit on at city hotels, shopping malls

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Fire Services Department continued with its fire safety audit of hotels and high-rise shopping malls.

Sources said the special teams of Odisha Fire Services conducted their fire safety inspections at 26 leading locations in the capital city, including the Hotel Marion located near Ram Mandir Square.

The officials have sealed the basement of the hotel for lack of fire safety measures, the sources added.

Today, the inspections were mainly shopping malls and jewellery shops in the city here.

Following the massive fire mishap in December in Mumbai last year, the Odisha Fire Services Department swung into action by initiating a State-wide fire safety audit of high-rise buildings housing malls, hotels and shops.

During the drive, the Fire-fighting officials will check whether the high-rise buildings and multiplexes have thorough fire safety equipments, efficacy of fire safety equipment, enough exit routes and exit signage boards, alternative evacuation plans in case of power failure or any emergency, and safety measures at house-keeping department, among many others, sources said.
