Bhubaneswar: In a major relief to the State Government, the agitating school and college teachers and employees today put their ongoing stir on hold till March 9.
The teachers and employees were protesting at the Mahatma Gandhi Marg here since last few days under the banner of All Odisha School and College Teacher' and Employees' United Forum demanding fulfilment of their seven-point charter of demands.
Prominent among the demand was withdrawal of a rule that makes it mandatory for teachers and employees to submit an affidavit before the Government declaring that they would withdraw all court cases against the Government and not move court against the Government in the future if they wish to avail themselves of grant-in-aid (GIA) facilities.
The forum decided to call off the strike till March 9 in its Steering Committee meeting.
Earlier today morning, Higher Education Minister Ananta Das and School and Mass Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra convened a meeting with the striking teachers at the State Secretariat to the end deadlock as the annual Matric and Plus II examinations were fast approaching.
